Cedric Varcoe is a NGARRINDJERI NARRUNGA man born in Adelaide in 1984. Cedric has been painting since he was a young man, inspired by close family who painted on and with what ever they could find, paper, rocks etc.
Cedric moved around South Australia as a young man and abandoned his painting, returning to it once he and his partner Eleanor began a family, settling in Port Pirie. In 2008 Cedric completed a mural in a cell in the Port Pirie police station. Through this project, Cedric was inspired to return to his art full-time. Since then he has taken part in many exhibitions in South Australia and Nationally. He has won many prizes for his work, regionally and in Adelaide and he has received a number of government grants to pursue his genre.
Cedric's work concentrates on the ancestral spirit, Ngurundjeri, creator of his people, the Ngarrindjeri that Cedric loves to paint.
When he is not painting, Cedric is an ambassador for his people working in the prison system and working in major regional hospitals. Cedric is a regular visitor to Adelaide and is always delighted to meet one Rundle clients interested in his work.
