Mina Mina

This is a very important Warlpiri Dreaming inherited by Justinna from her Mother, Elsie Granites’ Family. The Dreaming tells the story of the Ancestral women and their relationship to Country and in particular represents the movement of Women across their Country of Mina Mina.

Justinna’s remarkable use of controlled, precise dotting is very effective in the monochrome palette and beautifully represents the idea of the Women moving across their Country.

Justinna Napaljarri Sims was born in 1977 in Alice Springs Hospital, the closest hospital to Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community 290 km north-west from Alice Springs. She went to school at Yirara College (Alice Springs) but returned to the community in 1999. She and her family live between Yuendumu and Adelaide. Justinna is the daughter of Elsie Napanangka Granites, a well-known artist, and the grand-daughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (Dec), one of the founding artists of Warlukurlangu Artists Art Association, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Yuendumu. Justinna and her husband work closely with on Rundle and have been painting for us since 2016.
